Conservation of Native Wildlife in the Eastern Ghats Region

The Eastern Ghats Wildlife Society (EGWS) is a non-profit organization that promotes community-based wildlife conservation in the Eastern Ghats region of South India through education, conservation-oriented research, public participation, institutional capacity building and sustainable development. It is registered under the Andhra Pradesh Societies Registration Act, 2001 and under section – 12A and 80G of the Income Tax Act, 1961, and therefore all contributions are tax exempt.

What we do

  • Spreading actionable messages to protect flora and fauna of Eastern Ghats.
  • Inspiring surrounding communities and neighbours to take wildlife-saving actions
  • Partnering with other like-minded organization to strengthen the on-going efforts
  • Conservation action planning aimed at reducing the threats to imperilled wildlife
  • Behaviour change campaigns aimed at creating a harmonious relationship between humans and wildlife    
  • Public education programs and Institutional capacity building
  • Organizing treks and expeditions to generate interest in Eastern Ghats wildlife and garner support for EGWS's conservation activities.
  • Applying conservation conflict transformation (CCT) principles to resolve human-wildlife negative interactions outside protected areas.
  • Work with the local government departments to holistically conserve habitats and landscapes of conservation significance.
  •  Multiple stakeholder engagement in wildlife conservation of the eastern ghats.

To ensure local wildlife thrives in populations viable across their native range and habitats in the Eastern Ghats region of eastern India, and is also culturally valued with a harmonious coexistence with humans.
